Dr. Lars von Kolzenberg is a Principal Battery Modelling Engineer at Breathe Battery Technologies, where he develops high-fidelity battery models to accelerate cell optimization and enable faster, physics-based battery design. He has built custom simulation environments and embedded modeling tools directly into cell development workflows, bridging the gap between theory and application. Earlier in his career, Lars conducted research at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) while pursuing his PhD in Chemistry at Ulm University. His academic work focused on thermodynamic and chemo-mechanical modeling of SEI growth and degradation in silicon-anode lithium-ion cells, laying the foundation for a deep understanding of battery aging. By combining rigorous scientific insight with hands-on development experience, Lars brings cutting-edge expertise in battery design and modeling to this course.

Both. You’ll learn the underlying theory behind OCV, materials, and degradation but each topic is paired with hands-on assignments and a capstone project.
